Inside the Phat Luv is a triaxially braided glass configuration around the lively spruce and fir wood core giving the ski exceptional rebound and response. While K2's torsion box design has been around for a number of years it remains one of the best (and critically-acclaimed) ski construction techniques because of performance and versatility. If you're wondering about the mix of fir and spruce in the core that's the key element in K2's female-specific BioFlex design. K2 created a stable and forgiving profile by using spruce at the tip and tail and fir beneath the binding area. Using spruce at the ends helps with turn initiation and enhances the lightweight characteristics that are essential in keeping a female-specific ski more responsive than a heavier unisex ski design. The final refinement is K2's Mod Technology a secondary core that's independent of the spruce and fir core. Mod Technology dampens vibrations without messing with the ski's overall flex.
