Ski Portillo 2000

In 2000, Portillo celebrates its 51st year as Chile's most exclusive ski resort!

The Portillo Ski Area in Chile is famous for its beauty, its excellent skiing, and its ability to make guests feel at home both in the hotel and on the mountain.

In the world of skiing Portillo has a golden history... the famous skier Jean-Claude Killy won his first gold medals in Portillo in 1966. Speed skiers in Portillo's Kilometro Lanzado competitions were the first to exceed 200 kph. Four former gold medallists have led Portillo's Ski School over the years, and many an Olympic medallist has trained in Portillo.

Portillo's guests come from all over the world. There are no other hotels, so Portillo's 500 weekly guests have the Hotel and the world-class skiing all to themselves. Guests arrive like a freshman class every Saturday from June to October and leave a week later as great friends. Families spend happy weeks together.

Skiers and snowboarders delight in Portillo's powder, steeps, chutes, groomed slopes, and sheer beauty. Portillo offers 2 quad chair lifts, 1 triple, 2 doubles, 2 va et vient slingshot lifts, and 5 pomas. The skiing is wide open and bowl-like. Off-piste skiing and heli-skiing are available.

Portillo's Ski School is one of the finest in the world. Our Ski School Director, Mike Rogan, is a member of the elite US Demonstration Team. The Portillo Ski Instructors are a select group of accredited, experienced and multilingual professionals selected from the best ski schools in the Northern Hemisphere. Ski lessons with this legendary Ski School are an important element of a Portillo Ski Vacation.

Portillo's owner, Henry Purcell, and all the Portillo team treat guests as friends. The food is excellent. The Bar features live music every night. Tio Bob's on the mountain is the place to have lunch surrounded by the awesome beauty of the lake and mountains. The outdoor swimming pool is the place to be in the afternoon, and the gymnasium, weight room, aerobics and massage facilities are not to missed. A new Cyber Cafe with five computers gives Portillo's guests the opportunity to be on-line while high in the Andes.
