Skiing All Summer Long in the Crested Butte Backcountry

Robb
Today's shot was sent in last week by Deb Casey, Crested Butte Mountain Resort's payroll guru. Deb writes:

"Thought you'd enjoy this shot taken by my son, Casey Falter, yesterday. We hiked out Gothic Road to Emerald Lake on Sunday when he got the inspiration to ski this. He skied the north edge of Baldy above the lake yesterday morning and captured this view before heading down the long snow field all the way back to the road. I don't think anyone will be driving to Schofield Pass very soon this summer!"

While a lot of us have been up on the #401 side of this valley, I doubt as many have been on top of Baldy and enjoyed this perspective of Schofield Pass and Emerald Lake. And look at the snow still sitting out in the high country . . . it's easy to see why #401 and #403 aren't open yet. Both need some more melt time. Deb wasn't kidding about Schofield Pass not being accessible from Gothic, either. That's the largest snow plug I can remember seeing across the road down there. Thanks to Deb and Casey for sharing this photo with us today--very cool.

Speaking of closed mountain bike trails, we're down to just a few of them. In addition to #401 and #403, Teocalli Ridge is still on the closed list. Everything else is posted as open, some with a heads-up regarding mud and water on the trails. Be easy on the tender single track out there and enjoy!
