Whitetail

Whitetail ski resort is marketed as America's first major ski area to open in a decade (presumably meaning since Beaver Creek, Colorado). Located just 90 minutes drive from Washington DC and Baltimore, it is situated seven miles off Interstate 70 near to the town of Mercersburg.

Floodlit for night skiing up to 10 pm, the area's 17 runs appeal largely to intermediate level skiers. Experts have a few steep runs over the 900 foot vertical to enjoy, and the whole area is covered by state of the art snow making. The resort's five chairs include a very impressive four modern quads, which combined with the rope tow give a very healthy uplift capacity for a ski area of this size, of over 11,000 skiers per hour.
