Ragged was on its way to becoming a forgotten ski area until its current owners, Al and Walter Endriunas, responded to a 1986 newspaper ad for "a large parcel of land for sale in New Hampshire." When the brothers first saw Ragged, it had no working lifts and its one base lodge was in need of major renovations. But they also saw a site that had tremendous potential with several undeveloped peaks, expansive bowls, an unlimited water supply for snowmaking, and a prime New Hampshire location just under two hours from Boston.
Because Ragged's new owners were construction business veterans, they were able to accomplish most of Ragged Mountain's capital improvements by using their own construction company. "At first, we wanted to operate the ski area at whatever level kept us going - and then put in a little more for capital improvements every season," said Al. It was this patient, pay-as-you-go philosophy that kept Ragged Mountain free from the sort of debt many other resorts usually face when they undertake a major expansion program.
Today, Ragged Mountain offers the most affordable big mountain skiing and snowboarding experiences in New England with 200 + acres of trails, 98% state-of-the-art snowmaking coverage, nine lifts, and two New England colonial-style lodges.
