Indiana

The Hoosier States capital is located in Indianapolis, and the state has a land area of 36,420 square miles. Indiana's highest point is the Eastern Boundary at 1,257 feet and its lowest point if the Southwestern Boundary at 320 feet. Indiana entered the Union on Dec. 11, 1816, as the 19th state. Three 19th-century U.S. presidents - William Henry Harrison, his grandson Benjamin Harrison, and Abraham Lincoln - lived in Indiana for substantial periods. The state's name, which refers to Indians, was coined in the 1760s and applied to a private tract of land in Pennsylvania; the name was officially adopted when Indiana Territory was formed in 1800. Indiana is known as the Hoosier State.
